Concept
Caliber Home Loans’ annual incentive trip, originally planned to take place in Maui, was cancelled due to COVID-19. Still wanting to recognize their employees, Caliber approached Magic to produce and livestream a virtual awards ceremony for the 200+ award winners.

Magic implemented its broadcast experience to craft 2 separate hour-long shows that included interactive games, leader check-ins, and celebrity shout-outs from ICE-T and Chuck Norris, among others. Hosted by improv comedians David Ahearn and David Wilk with live music from Ray Sharp, the 2-night event retained an unscripted energy that kept viewers entertained and engaged.

Production consisted of a multi-camera set for the hosts and a private Zoom conference managed by Magic for remote attendees like the leadership team and game contestants. The livestream was pushed to a private portal hosted through Magic’s website and accessible only to employees with a link to the page. Custom animated graphics and pre-recorded elements created a unique virtual experience for the audience.
Magic coordinated closely with Caliber’s team to create skits, custom games, and promotional videos that were sent prior to the event. A full day of in-studio production was spent filming invite videos, the opening skit, and additional pre-recorded leadership interactions. During the event, Magic’s on-site videographers captured behind-the-scenes content for post-production.
Technology is the backbone for any live event. Magic ran multiple stream tests in the weeks leading up to the event to ensure reliable internet connectivity. Additionally, on rehearsal day, the at-home leadership guests were educated on how video conferencing would work in the show’s live environment.

This production was planned, created, and executed within 6 weeks. Show production spanned 3 days: setup and rehearsal, and the 2-night event. After production concluded, there was a 24-hour turnaround for a highlight video the client needed for external promotion. An additional week of post-production was necessary to edit the show for external viewing.

From concept to post-production, Magic provided an end-to-end solution to create Caliber’s first and highly successful virtual event. The livestream reached a maximum of 700 viewers, a 250% increase from its goal viewership of 200. A satisfaction survey for the event sent by the company to its employees garnered an overall average 5 star approval rating with comments like: “It was superb. A good program and really, flawlessly executed.”
